WORD FOR TODAY

DO WE LEARN FROM STORMS?

We can learn a lot about ourselves during storms and where we are spiritually.  The rich young ruler obeyed all God’s laws, but when it came time to let go of his things, he couldn’t.  See MATTHEW 19:16-22.  With Hurricane Ike how many people stayed in the path of destruction because they couldn’t let go of things?

I found myself trying to figure out a way that I could take a table saw and a planer.  They were my Dad’s and he has since gone to be with the Lord.  I realized I couldn’t take them and all we could really take with us were some clothes, important papers and our two dogs.  I knew I just had to trust God at this time.

I knew that even though I loved these things and would have been sad, I could go on and rebuild without the saw and planer.  The storm could remove or destroy the material things but not the memory of my Dad in my heart.  I realize I am not alone and that others faced and are facing the same situation daily.  I do know that if I had to, I could start over because of God’s love and care.  As a person watches TV there are people in the Galveston area doing just that. The men and women that are incarcerated are facing storms in their lives.  Most are there because of the choices they made in their lives, but reality sets in after they lose everything. For once in their lives they have to begin to rely on others for everything.  This is why the bible studies and ministry is so important.  It gives them something to hold on to during the storms of life, and it leads them to the love, peace and joy that only comes from God because He loves them. Keep praying and helping those who were in the path of Hurricane Ike.  Do what you can and as always pray.
